WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
Costa Rica really is the jungle you might have imagined! Crazy animals, lush rainforests, warm water and rugged beaches make it the perfect place escape. After a treacherous drive down from Nosara (more on our stay at the Harmony Hotel here), we spent a few days at Ylang Ylang Lodge in Manzanillo and then moved onto our beachfront pad in Santa Teresa to finish off the trip. This was our second time in Costa Rica, the first visit was 5 fives years ago not long after we first met, and the best part is not much has changed. Some of our fav restaurants were still there, the waves were still breaking on the same banks, the sunsets were still unbelievable and the roads were still shockingly bad. Not that we minded, it all adds to the adventure of this little strip of jungle wilderness.
GETTING HERE – You need a 4×4 in Santa Teresa if you want to do any exploring. Like we mentioned in our previous post, Costa Rica is pretty developed in terms of restaurants and facilities but the roads are terrible throughout most of the Nicoya Peninsula and even worse during the rainy season. Be prepared for dirt roads, pot holes, swolen river crossings, mud slides and flash flooding. It can get hectic sometimes!
