Inside Costa Rica’s Most Stylish Surf Retreat
Deciding where to go on your next Central American surf trip can be daunting. Especially if you’re solo and looking for somewhere a little bit more luxe than your average surf shack. ENTER: The Harmony Hotel.
This chic hideway in Nosara is the perfect rainforest retreat for females, solo travellers or couples in need of some chill time. Set in the jungle canopy and only a short walk from the sand, this hotel is complete with juice bar, yoga studio and spa. AND it’s one of the few places we have found in the area that has a solid beach break right out the front at Playa Guiones.
SWELL & WEATHER – Our stay at the Harmony Hotel was in July and we got pretty solid surf, mostly sunny days with big storms in the afternoon. Although swell does tend to be bigger here in the wet season from May to August, this area of Costa Rica is known for it’s consistent year round swell.
GETTING HERE – You will need a car, preferably a 4×4. Costa Rica is pretty developed in terms of restaurants, shops and facilities but the roads are terrible throughout most of the Nicoya Peninsula and even worse during the rainy season. Be prepared for dirt roads, pot holes, swolen river crossings, mud slides and flash flooding. If this all sounds a little too hectic for your vacay and you’re more yogi than explorer, Harmony Hotel can provide transfers and almost everything you will need is all within walking distance.
